ok so my charries one is kind of irritating the other is trying to make friends. yet i feel like the are both being singled out to be the bad people. its actually hurting my feelings. when one of my charries is just trying to be nice & is being treated like s***. i dont even understand why people would make someone elses charrie who is nice & kind out to be some kind of rot of all evil. it actually makes me think about leaving the server.

Shay, hun. This is a game, do not EVER take anything IC personally. I've made that mistake before.

And if you're wondering why characters (Evelyn included) were acting mean towards yours, look at the behavior of your characters towards ours. We were just replying to IC actions, IC. We don't mean to hurt you, we're just staying true to our characters, and to our RP.

I have to say, I can kind of feel for you on this one, Shay. I felt the exact same way when I started playing here. It can be really tough, and like you, I (and other people can attest to this) seriously considered leaving the server because frankly, I wasn't having fun.

That said, I'm still around, so obviously I didn't give into my impulse to leave. Why? Because I realized that I can't take IC things personally, no matter how unfun or offensive or whatever it is. People can sometimes come off as rude or mean (or their characters), but they may just be wrapped up in something and are short on patience. Or they may simply be responding as their characters would. Try not to take it personally.

My advice is to stick it out. I know of several people who enjoy roleplaying with you, so maybe just stick with them for the time being, and try to branch out later. If you find you aren't up for that, I sometimes take a sabbatical from playing NWN altogether, usually for a week or two. I find it can really help put everything into perspective and calm you down.

but the thing is even when my charries are being nice & have done nothing to provoc the behavior others give them it happens. some of you think all this is just a game. in Real Life i'm too sick to leave my house so i'm online almost all the time. i enjoy RPing & the HP server is the best server i've found. i love RPing with you guys but lately i feel as if im getting singled out even if thats not what people are intending to do.

IC actions, provoke IC actions...IC and OOC should always remain separate. If you feel like - because your characters are ICly being disliked - that you are, that's taking IC into OOC. Keeping IC and OOC separate is a very -very- important thing.

There's really nothing else I can say on this subject. I probably sound harsh and mean about it, but the sum of it is that you have to keep IC and OOC separate, or you -will- end up upset a -lot-. Conflicts happen, ICly. If they're OOC conflicts, that's another matter, but there are a -lot- of IC conflicts. There are a lot of characters that are really stressed out, and likely to snap at people for little things, right now.

No one is singling you out. Everyone takes their lumps, and bruises all the time, even the best of us get treated poorly IC'ly. It's a game, people play characters based on the way they see them to act. No one is trageting the player behind the character, but mainly focusing on sending reactions to the characters actions.

We do not want to see people going, it's not what we work to uphold. We are a community, and we accept all people. And, we are all sorry to hear of your illness. I, and many others, have no problem with you.

Do remember that.

Shay - you're not the only one with problems. I have serious problems with my emotional health - and my physical health is currently going down the drain, quickly. I've been here since the very first day this server was up. I have been tempted to leave many, many times. But things get better, and I still consider this place my home, and the people on here I value just as much as my family and boyfriend. You are not alone. I have felt singled out at times as well. You need to just go through things, and it'll be better on the other side. :)

Trust me, I know more then you think. And as for characters reactions, again... not everyone has the same views about things, hun. Understanding and accepting that speaks volumes about someone. As I said before - It was all IC. Don't give up because of IC stuff. Having done that before... I can say you would likely regret it, later on in time. So just keep going.

The important part to understand about RP is that you are not your character, and your character is not you. Likewise, the same is true about the characters around your character. They are not their players, and their players are not them. A character getting angry at your character, hating your character, loving your character even, does not mean that those same emotions cross over to the players. In fact, it's usually very bad form to allow them to.

It is very easy to do, yeah. I've done it too. Though as it was previously suggested, taking a break, shut the game off, get an opportunity to calm down and think it over, usually helps. Or just go into the sign room and be afk for a few hours. ;)
