Even though it's a Saturday, people still have work, kids, etc...

Quote: Do you Americans hold a grudge against Europeans for colonising your country and building the majority of your major cities or something...?
Haha, that's wrong on so many levels.
It'll actually be starting too early for me, because I do play late at night, so I might be arriving late OOCly. I'm going to try to get on and do a "gingerbread"/candy house, though.
Just remember that this thing can go on for a while. In the past I've done two, separate "starts." Maybe some of you can agree on a time to meet for a second go at it, even if it's not quite the same.

Sorry! *Waves some random European flag* We love you guys! We dooooo!
But this is what works best for the GM's running the events. We do try to please as many of you as possible, but you know the saying...
You can't please everyone! Or is it - Life sucks... oh wait... Life isn't fair.
Yeah, plus... OMGosh... I haven't had a "real" Saturday in about five years. Come back and talk to us old married with kids crowd about how wonderful Saturday's can be -after- you are old, married and tired. =)

So if we can't please all the people all of the time, we can only please some of the people all the time and some of the people none of the time? to nick and edit a quote from a former US president
Also, aren't there any European GMs? If not that's really something that should be addressed.

Yes, but not everyone. And the majority of Europeans won't even have that chance.
Even just having it two hours earlier would at least give Europeans a couple of hours to be able to attend and some opportunity.

I have work and kids and will have to be joining my euro friends at that time. Which works for me better since my character is French.

For the record, I want it made clear that my inability to attend the Ball owes little to the timezone problems. No grudges against GMs here regarding the scheduled time; I simply have to choose to make priorities, and where HP has had a strong priority over christmas, I have to (and want) to make up some lost time with my significant other.
So you guys have a blast. If I can, I'll see if I can peek on for a little, but I'm not sure. I'll probably peek my head in to check on you guys night of Sun/Monday, though, US time. Have fun.

Which would make it 5pm EST, 4 pm CST, 3 pm MST, and 2PM Pacific
Like what was said before people need to watch kids, work, etc.
The server is hosted in a UMT-6/7 time zone. That is almost a 12 hour difference for some people over there in Europe. It's either shutting out the Europeans or Americans.
Also, Sagira/Callie does a great job of catering to European players. She usually does repeats of classes and whatnot for people in European timezones, and she is Candian.
And in honor of her, here is a Canadian flag.
O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee
And now in french!
Ô Canada!
Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

Go Canada! *Is Canadian.*
And like Tsu, I likely won't be attending, not due to timezones, again, but because not only will Runequest also take up most of my night, I have too much homework I've been putting off for a few big reasons...
Though, for you guys who do go.. have fun.

So basically because SOME new worlders need to work and watch kids, ALL Europeans miss out? That's basically the crux of it.
Plus, I'd have thought most jobs finish early on a saturday.

So I have to be online every day to have an opinion?
Christmas eve I think.... not that that's matters.

I think Seril's point was just that they tend to cater more to the people who are around more. Squeaky wheels get the grease and that sort of thing.
Seems like a few people are having a rough day. Hope you're all okay.

I think the final point that the server is US hosted, and the majority of players being Americans or Canadians is pretty much the best argument here. As a European, I of course would like to see everything catered to my needs, but the needs of the many must unfortunately trump the needs of the few. I think some appreciation for the GM team's efforts to bridge the gap is in order, really. I've been part of the b*tching choir myself, but when it comes down to it, they do a decent job in catering the the Euro crowd's needs. IMO.

To Alex: *Is European. Is online now, and will be on for the ball aswell, though likely wont attend anyway.*
Also, I believed you asked if there are any European DMs? No.
Alright, I guess it's a bit unfair, seeing as I don't have a life, and being online all night isn't a big deal.
