I'll take any/all of the above. Except for whatever days I'm at Aden's. Which I don't know when they'll be....so I'm absolutely pointless.

I'm not sure if I'll be up for attending, but... Anything past the 19th, which is my last day of school before christmas, and onward is good.

As a Scandinavian, where Yule traditions come from (our word for Christmas even being "Jul") I can tell you this is absolutely wrong. Yule was celebrated a bit later than modern Christmas, late December to early January. With the innovation of the Gregorian calendar, it was placed to the 25th.

Traditionally, though, Yule was a period of heavy drinking and festivities, so it usually spanned several weeks.

I was talking about Wiccan Yule. Although, like most festivals, they usually lasted from sunset to sunset over a period of days. :)

Well, ideally for me, the later, the better. :)

((Btw, for the group going to Callie's place for Christmas... Anyone mind discussing that in January? Though I can try posting something for it earlier, my schedule for the rest of this month is crazy. Though I theoretically, hopefully get three days off (in a row!) after Boxing Day))

As long as I know in advance, and it's at a time that's reasonable for Europeans (5am is NOT reasonable) then I don't mind.

9/10pm BST would be a good time.

Alright! I know the 20th was winning in the poles, but frankly, the DM team is swamped with a few of us out of town for the holidays or having family in-town. With that, we have decided to postpone the festivities till AFTER the new years. Most likely, January 3rd, but we will keep you posted with more details as the time approaches.

So, go out caroling, singing, dancing, tossing candy canes at house elves or people pretending to be Santa and enjoy Saturday the 20th even though we won't be having the Yule Ball that day.

Thanks everyone!

The ball itself will most likely be held on the 3rd, or the 4th if we get back from the hospital late.

There will be another Gingerbread House competition, that will begin on the 27th. It will be judged at the Yule Ball.

At a reasonable time for Europeans, I'm sure!

If NwN can overcome the lure of Fallout 3 or Football Manager 2009 that is.

I'm sure the Ball will extend over a period of time which will most certainly accommodate our players around the globe.

Also, the Ball looks to be occurring in January ICly as well as OOCly. So we should call it a New Year Ball, perhaps? It seems to me it makes sense for Hogwarts to celebrate the new year after students are returning from their holiday break, rather than hold a big event always for just those who remain at school over the holiday.

Reminder...

Keep Saturday, January 3rd open!
The official ceremonies for the annual Yule Ball will be held on that day.

More specific times to be announced shortly.

Midnight? Oh ffs.

Do you Americans hold a grudge against Europeans for colonising your country and building the majority of your major cities or something and take it out by holding events at times which realistically excludes the majority of non-nocturnal Europeans?

As Xeph said:

Sleep > Other Country People.

Really, since this is an American Hosted Server, and the majority of Players/GMs are all American, there's not much you can do about it.

It's like going onto a German Server and expecting them all to speak English.

And I think I'm being harsh here. >.>

Yes. Yes, you are.

It would not be difficult to compromise and how would having it earlier effect sleep negatively? I mean it's a saturday so it's not like people won't be around till the evening anyway.
