I was having a random debate about MMO's with a friend when NWN came up. He believes NWN is not an MMO but I beg to differ. Seeing as how MMO stands for Massive Multiplayer Online. Feel free to put your opinion.

I don't think any NWN multiplayer mods have enough players to qualify as massive--maybe not even if you added them all together. But then again, who cares?

It's an MO, not an MMO. That's just my opinion though

I have to agree with the no's. It needs at least 100 players in a single server to qualify as massive, and the most I've seen it capable of is 75.

Hmm, I actually have to say it is....a MMO. Just for that fact that there are Serveral Servers on Gamespy and there are more than 10,000 ppl playing at least, maybe more *shrugs* Anyways, just a thought....

Doesn't have anything to do with total amount of players, it's amount of players at one time. Counter Strike isn't an MMO either, they're pretty damned similar as far as player-base goes. Adam put a perfect word for it, MO. It lacks the massive.

True, there are probably a massive amount of people playing neverwinter at one time, but I think Massive depends on the server size. WoW, I know, has hundreds of people on a server at a time, thus making it massive. Neverwinter lacks that part, the most I've seen a server capable of handling is 75, and even then it's pretty laggy.

I suppose if you strung together a few server style computers to host one neverwinter nights server, and could get enough people interested, you could get NWN to be considered an MMO, but even then you run into the problem of lag on the user end, unless everyone happens to be running (just as an example) a Pentium four processor with 2 top notch nvidia graphics cards(or similar), but that's just a wild speculation and theory. I have no idea if it would actually work, or even decrease the lag with high amounts of people.

I don't think that's even possible, Pein. NWServer doesn't allow for max players to go above 80 or 90, I think. And, as you said, very few computers and internet connections can run that lag-free.
