Post subject:  Hogwarts Attacked

During this plot, I ask that all information be kept strictly FOIC. That is, do not discuss these things OOCly or share information in any way other than between characters, in character. To do so robs yourself and others of role play.

I will post in this thread once in a while as the general RP develops, to let you all know what to be RPing in the days to come.

Rumors spread quickly among the entire wizarding community: Hogwarts has been destroyed, the Ministry was distroyed, London itself was attacked, towns across the wizarding community were attacked, Professors Moody, Snape, McGonagall and Dumbledore were killed, the Magical Law Enforcement is in shambles, and only a handful of Aurors remain. How much is truth and how much is simply rumor is hard to tell.

As you log back into the server, if you were not present at the latest event, it is likely that your character would have been at school. You may choose to RP that they were elsewhere if you like, but they would have pretty easily found out that all Hogwarts students are supposed to be at Saint Mungo's. Hogwarts itself is off limits. ALL STUDENTS ARE -REQUIRED- TO BE -AT- MUNGO'S AT THIS TIME. ICly, this is to help keep the IC chaos at a minimum to make sure everyone is accounted for. Parents of students will be kept informed and slowly reunited with their children in the coming DAYS, but very unlikely within the first 24 hours. Please RP this, as well as the panic involved in such a situation. If your character's parent(s) work at the Ministry, please contact a DM. Even when reunited, parents are encouraged to meet with their kids briefly and let them stay at Mungo's, -for now-. In the coming days, they will be released to go, if the situation warrants it. Until parents are reunited with their kids, it will be unknown if they made it through the attacks safely! Even though there may only be a handful of people logged in, remember that -all- of Hogwarts is crammed into the ground floor of Mungo's. If your character hasn't seen a particular PC, then RP that- they don't know if they are safe until they have heard otherwise.

(The following lines are out of date, this whole post is now considered common knowledge) If your character wasn't at the attack ICly, then please feel free to read no futher, but please proceed to Saint Mungo's and learn what you can ICly.

If your character was ICly at the school even though you could not be there, then please RP the following (DO NOT READ if you wish to find out in game, if your character wasn't there):

Suddenly, mid-day, the school shook with an explosion. Then another, and another. The sound of a tower falling could be heard. Then in the chaos, McGonagall's voice commanded all students to head to the Great Hall, only to be cut off as she screamed, followed by another massive explosion. Students swarmed to the Great Hall, where Professors Moody and Snape were seen clearly very injured, or worse- but it was hard to tell their condition. As the explosions continued, it felt like the very castle was falling to pieces as chunks of rock hit the roof of the Great Hall. All students evacuated by floo to Diagon, and once regrouping there, on to Saint Mungo's.

The staff of Saint Mungos was in no condition to take on the sheer number of students flowing into the building. Students made every attempt to find their friends to make sure they are ok, and questioned staff about the condition of the professors. But before too long, more blasts could be heard in the distance. Blast after blast resounded through Saint Mungo's, and the first of the Ministry officials walked in through the doors, greatly injured, followed by another, and then followed by the flood. The Ministry was under attack the same as Hogwarts was. The injured from the Ministry flooded the already overwhelmed hospital, and made connecting with friends and family even harder.

Beyond that, all information should be found out in character!

Post subject:  Re: Hogwarts Attacked

Students all around are beginning to be reunited with parents as the dust from the chaos settles, and as all students are located. Those with parents from the Ministry seem to remain in fear of the worst still, as the upper three floors of Mungos still have not sorted out all the Ministry officials.

If you wish, please go ahead and RP out a scene meeting up with parents, getting a letter probably by Mungo's elf and not by owl, IF your character's parents are not Ministry workers. If they are, please make sure the DMs know if you haven't already. Also if you want your character's parents DMd we -may- be able to do something, but please understand our resources are limited and we can't RP them all.

Students are still requested to stay within Mungos, but rumors spread quickly that an end is in sight, and plans to move students out are being made. Professors seem very understanding of the cabin fever, and ask students to hang in there just a little longer.

A huge shipment of donations has arrived! Students are given new sets of clothes, as well as care packages! Several students would have been seen sorting out the clothing and packages near the entrance of Mungo's.

Through the next day or so house elves would be delivering the packages to students. Within the package can be found candy and snacks, and some magical joke toys and such. Most would have a little note from a random person who donated, saying they hope that it brightens their day, and their thoughts are with Hogwarts students.

Nothing major would be in the care packages, just simple trinkets, snacks and candies. Within that, please feel free to be creative! Care packages would have been sorted by gender so boys wouldn't get anything obviously girly or the other way around.

As house elves shy away from dealing with clothing, the donated clothing can be found near the entrance to Mungo's.

Post subject:  Re: Hogwarts Attacked

Students are now beginning to be reunited with parents and checked out of Mungo's in droves. Of-age students can now be seen coming and going at will using apparation. Other students take strolls to the Leaky Cauldron to get some real food, or continue on to Diagon.

Please feel free to RP that your character's parents have made whatever arrangements you like, to keep them at Mungo's, take them home, whatever makes sense for the current time. Any underage students who are staying at Mungo's under the care of Hogwarts (presumably because they have nowhere else to go) must remain there, or in the immediate vicinity of Mungo's, the Leaky Cauldron area, or Diagon, and are only allowed out of the Mungo's building under the supervision of an of-age student. Underage students who have gone home with parents are not considered under Hogwarts/Mungo's care and may go where their parents would allow. It is up to you to choose which set of restrictions you wish to RP for your character if underage: Stay at Mungo's under Hogwarts care, or go home with parents under whatever restrictions they would have.

If you need any further DM RP on this matter of checking out of Mungo's and/or parental arrangements with your character, please contact us and we can set up some RP for you. Otherwise, feel free to imply the check-out.

Keep in mind that Mungo's is still where "Hogwarts" is at the moment, so -all- Hogwarts students, checked out or not, are still allowed and even encouraged to be there until further arrangements can be made.

As students begin to wander the module again, please remember that Hogwarts and the Ministry are OOCly off limits without a DM. The areas themselves are not accurate to RP.

While the immediate threat seems to have dwindled with the death of the man in armor, please remember a few very important facts about major plots:

1) They are inherently unsafe. By committing your PC to this plot, you do put your PC at risk. Death -is- possible.
2) You do not have to participate in the danger. Your PC's life is important to himself or herself. This should be reflected in your RP. And OOCly, your PC is important to you. Your character is pretty much guaranteed to live if you stay out of it.
3) If you decide to stay out of it, you're out of it. If you want the RP, then you're going to have to have your character jump in, despite the risks. If you decide otherwise, then please understand that it's your decision to sit it out. If you are jumping in, you'll need to keep us unformed of what your PCs are up to, please don't just assume we know what you're doing. We can't always be everywhere at once.
4) We won't off PCs just to off PCs. While risky, in general, you really have to do something very brave/stupid/something obvious to get your PC killed. It's not something we throw around lightly, but remember that it's always possible.
5) There is already ONE PC who fit the above description during the opening event who should be dead now. We were nice, because this warning hadn't been posted yet.
6) We -hope- that while you understand all this, that you'll decide to participate as time goes on.
7) We are not going to assume participation. You and your PC just may have to take an active roll in getting involved. If you wait for it, it may not happen, and the ones who are actively going after it will be the ones who get it while you are left behind. This is your fair warning. That isn't to say that things will never just fall into someone's lap, but please, don't expect them to if you want to be involved.

Slowly, over the next week or so, personal belongings begin to students are returned to them from the dorms. Unfortunately, some of the dorms were extensively damaged. As possessions begin to be returned, news of the state of the common rooms makes it to students as well. Please feel free to role play this damage to possessions as you see fit:

Gryffindor tower fell completely. What is returned to students takes time ro sort out, after being pulled from rubble. As such, many, if not most, possessions would have been completely destroyed.

Ravenclaw tower stands, but is precarious. Damage was light, but because of the dangerous situation in Ravenclaw, recovery of possessions will take some time.

Hufflepuff commons is largely collapsed. There would be many possessions lost, but many would also make it fine.

Slytherin commons is nearly perfectly intact, as it was not physically under the castle. Rumors of its flooding seem to have been simply false. Possessions from Slytherin are returned to their owners.

If your character would have had any "contraband," dark arts, or anything that would have caught the attention of the MLE as they rescued it from the castle's remains, please reply to this post and let me know in a PM. As for everything else, please RP that at some point in the next week or so their stuff is returned to them, or destroyed.

((for clarity's sake...Calan means click the reply button on this post, so that it opens up a PM window, not the reply to thread button! No need to air your character's private contraband publicly here. -Yendys))

((Yes, please PM me, don't reply publically! Thanks Yendys. -Calan))

Were pet owls able to escape the owlery safely?

Author:  JBMT [ Tue Mar 18, 2014 1:21 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Hogwarts Attacked

I'm sure that the owls got the heck out as soon as they sensed danger, so most if not all of them should have been able to survive. But some may have been injured. And immediately after the disaster, many of the student owls were commandeered for emergency service.

Postal service should be returning back to normal now.

((Calan might do a better write-up of this later, but he's feeling pretty out of it tonight so I've stepped in to make sure nobody's left out of the loop oocly! Bear with us please!))

Earlier this evening, those students remaining at Mungo's were moved through London to the Ministry of Magic, where it was announced that they would be staying for the time being while Hogwarts was rebuilt. Students were told of the dormitory on the basement level, as well as the library on the first floor, and warned not to wander around other areas of the Ministry unless invited to do so. It was also announced that classes are intended to resume in short order, using facilities supplied by the Ministry.

((Contact a DM if you have trouble getting to the Ministry.))

Addition by Calan:

Students who were not at Mungo's for this transfer are probably at home with parents. Parents and legal guardians will be getting letters from the school, stating that Hogwarts is happy to announce that the Ministry has set aside a place in the Ministry building where students can continue to learn. Students who had gone home are now encouraged to return to the Hogwarts at the Ministry. Entry to the Ministry can be achieved by dialing "Magic" on one of the phone booths outside the Ministry building. Follow the Circular Room around until you get to the elevators, and Hogwarts is set up in the Basement.

Most NPC students will not be returning at this time, as parents fear for their children's lives. Obviously, the Ministry had just been attacked, so is the place safe? Others argue that it's still the safest place to be, after all that is where the attacker was ultimately stopped. Some parents keep their children home, while others make sure that their children are provided with the best education possible during these dark times, because they know how much that education is needed. Now more than ever.

As PCs, it is important to make sure that for whatever reason, your character's parents or guardians do in fact decide to send their kids (your character) back to school. Their exact reasoning is up to you. Please do RP though that the basement of the Ministry isn't filled with the usual 800 students at Hogwarts, but a mere fraction of that- mostly our PCs.

Students are required to stay within the Ministry basement, or in the library on the 1st floor. 7th year students are allowed to head to the Leaky Cauldron or Diagon. Students years 5-6 are allowed to go with them, only if escorted by an older student. Curfew is in effect, and all students must be in the basement by 11pm. Being in the Hogwarts tent is not required, but they must at least be in the basement areas. This includes 7th years.

Life in the Ministry Basement:

This post is to let people know some things about how life works at the Ministry.

-Meals are served at the cafe in the Circular Room on Level 8, not in the basement. Meals are provided free of charge for Hogwarts students. Students may bring food down to the basement and eat at the house tables if they want to.

-All wands must be registered at the Informationalist in the lobby. THIS IS SCRIPTED- Please make sure you actually do it. There will only be a few day OOC grace period!

-The student population is very thin. There are at most several dozen students in the basement. Please understand that ICly when people are logged out, their characters are still most likely in the basement somewhere.

(( I will write more as things come up! ))

Post subject:  Re: Hogwarts Attacked

Students would hear that the magical armor that was worn by the attacker has been transferred to the school. They would also hear of a tense altercation with goblins in the Atrium of the Ministry. Apparently, the goblins claim ownership of the armor and demanded to see it. Aurors, not wanting to start an international incident, protected the armor but did all they could not to cast on the goblins themselves.

Finally ending the stalemate, Dumbledore appeared in the Atrium and offered the goblins a lot more than the Ministry had been planning. The armor was to be taken to the basement, perhaps surprisingly, so that the Hogwarts professors could assist in researching it.

Upon moving the armor to the basement to Lecture Hall E, goblins and Hogwarts staff alike examined the armor. What was found there will need to be discovered ICly through conversation with PCs or NPCs who were there.

The rule of thumb is that the armor room is off limits and under guard. However, students are -encouraged- to assist in the research, but must be accompanied by a professor at all times while in the armor room.

Post subject:  Re: Hogwarts Attacked

Since things have calmed down, and since the professors are aware that students are feeling bottled up, some rules have been relaxed. These IC rules would now be common knowledge.

Of-age students are allowed to move about as they please, but are still students and would still be attending classes and must be back for curfew.

Students years 5-6 are allowed to go to Diagon unsupervised. They should floo there and avoid walking through London unless with an of-age person. They may go elsewhere if going with an of-age person.

Years 1-4 are restricted to Diagon, and only under supervision of an of-age witch or wizard.

The following is a rough sketch of the armor that the man used, which at this point in time is sitting in the locked E room in the basement of the Ministry. The upper half of the drawing is the armor as seen. The lower half of the drawing is portions of interest from the X-Rays which were taken of the armor.

The armor is made from a stony metal material.

It is important to point out that this is a rough sketch to give people the general idea of what it looks like. The exact runes shown should not be taken as IC, as I put no thought into what I drew there at all. :P It just shows where the runes are located.

The wizarding community continues to rebuild what was lost the day of the attacks. This past weekend, most of the shops in the village of Hogsmeade re-opened for business, much to the joy of many students. It would have been announced to students that all those who previously had permission to visit the village(that is, everybody years 3+ who turned in a permission slip) would be allowed to visit through the floo fireplaces, though of course they would be required to be back at the Ministry by curfew. ((If your character hasn't visited Hogsmeade since floo was enabled, it's ok to make your first visit OOCly by train just to pick up the special powder.))

((Posting on Calan's behalf to give you guys a visual aid for the strange devices found during the RP event this weekend. Please consider the fact most characters, save for just one or two, did not see these devices in person. The description has filtered back like a game of telephone, and as such has become distorted to some extent. This is IC. The visual aid has been provided so that you can reconcile the description your character was given with what Calan had envisioned, smoothing over the little "oh that's obviously what they actually meant by a circle, hee hee I was imagining it all wrong" stuff. However, if the description your character was passed along is blatantly incorrect, that is IC and they do not necessarily know that their information is wrong. It is recommended that you only look at this link if your character has seen them in person, or saw a drawing, or if you otherwise feel they would genuinely know what they look like: here))

After a tense few weeks, and Hogwarts' loss of the armor research project, students are relieved to be going back to the castle. Students will leave from King's Cross station tonight, and the new term will begin once everybody is settled in. Feel free to RP that your character went home for a break between when they left the ministry and when they returned to King's Cross station.
