((OOC Notes:))

((Event times listed above are start times. If you want to participate in the event, set your alarm or whatever to arrive 15 minutes early. For all events, no participants will be accepted after the event starts. For team events, each team will be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis. I'll do my best to make sure that everybody gets a chance to play at least one match, but if it just won't work and someone has to sit out, it will be the last person to arrive unless there's another volunteer.))

((Uniforms will be available from 7/27-8/12 from boxes which I will try to keep stocked, and also at each event. Olympics uniforms are required to be worn when participating in events. Yes, Sierra, even if they make your butt look big.))

(("Examine" all placeables that can be examined, as I'll often have text there, OOC or IC. Some notes will point to this thread to find out more, as there's only so much space in object descriptions.))

((There will be a post in this thread for each room on the second floor olympics centre, containing full content that I couldn't fit on the placeables in-game. This information is considered to be what your character can learn ICly from exploring that room, so feel free to explore as much or as little of it as your character would. The knowledge isn't OOC if your character would have looked for it in the room.))

((Magical items and enchantments are prohibited at the events.))

((If there are no members of a house available to play, it was decided via player vote at the discus competition to allow the DM to use a DM PC in order to have that house compete for medals.))

History of Volleyball

((Relay Rules))

The relay will be a running relay, taking place on a circular track. The starting team member stands at the beginning zone, while each other member takes a position in one of the other zones, as directed by the referee. As the race begins, the starting team member will run, holding the baton, to the first handoff zone.

((How to race: All runners will run at the same time, proceeding around the course in sync even if one would be ICly ahead of the other. Race commentary by the DM will emote who is currently ahead or behind. At the start of each runner's stretch, they will roll str. This will be their Running Score, and will be used to determine the final race results. If a natural 1 is rolled, the runner may stumble or even fall, at the DM's discretion. After all Running Scores have been received, you may run to the next handoff station.))

As they cross into the handoff zone, the second team member will begin to run, reaching behind them for the baton to be handed off. The handoff must be completed within the handoff zone.

((How to hand off the baton: The action will pause each time the runners reach a handoff zone. Both team members will roll dex, and the numbers will be added together to produce their Handoff Score. If either team member rolls a natural 1, the baton may be fumbled, possibly incurring a penalty at the DM's discretion. Otherwise, the Handoff Score will be used to determine how smoothly the handoff went, and will factor into the final race results. Then, once all rolls have been made, the second runners will proceed.))

The first team to cross the finish line is the winner.

((Volleyball Rules))

The match will begin with a coin toss to determine which team will serve first(serves will alternate thereafter). Each team will then array themselves on their side of the net, and the serving team will choose a team member who will hit the ball first.

((How to hit the ball to the other team: The player hitting the ball declares who they are hitting the ball to. At this point, the DM may decide that it's a tricky shot, and penalize the shot at their discretion. Then, the player hitting the ball rolls str, opposed by the target's dex roll. If the dex roll subtracted from the modified str roll is ten or more, the target misses the ball. Otherwise, the ball is hit, and the target becomes the new ball hitter. If the hitting player rolls less than a five, the ball fails to make it over the net and lands on their own side of the court.))

The ball will continue to be hit from one team to the other, until one team lets the ball drop or fails to get it over the net, at which point the opposing team will gain a point. Play will continue until one team has scored 5 points.

((Water Polo Rules))

Each team chooses one team member to be their goalie, who is in charge of defense of the goal. A coin toss decides which team will start in possession of the ball(rounds will alternate), and the players arrange themselves in the water on their side of the pool. The goalie must stay in front of the goal, and may not obtain the ball unless they catch it defending the goal. The referee will start the round by throwing the ball to a team member.

Each turn, every player(goalie excluded) may take one action. The player who has the ball may pass to another of their team members, or may attempt a goal. All other players may move, or may attempt to steal the ball. When all players apart from the goalie have made an action, the next turn begins.

((How to move: Each turn, all players except for the goalie and the player in possession of the ball may move. With detect mode/walk turned on, you may move in a straight line for up to a count of one second.))

((How to pass the ball: The player passing the ball declares the pass in the dm channel while other players are moving. After all moves have been made, the pass is emoted and the passing player rolls str. Each opposing player along the path of the ball will roll an opposing dex, and if it exceeds the str of the player who threw the ball then the pass was intercepted, and the player who intercepted the ball will start the next turn in possession of the ball. Players who have moved in that turn may still intercept or receive the ball.))

((How to steal the ball: In place of moving, a player may attempt to steal the ball from the opposite team if they start their turn next to the player who has the ball. Both players make opposing str checks, and the one who wins begins the next turn in possession of the ball. If the ball is not stolen, the player who has it may proceed with their declared pass or goal attempt.))

((How to attempt a goal: The player with the ball declares the goal attempt in the dm channel while other players are moving. After all moves have been made, the goal attempt is emoted and the throwing player rolls str. Each opposing player along the path of the ball will roll an opposing dex, and if it exceeds the str of the player who threw the ball then the pass was intercepted, and the player who intercepted the ball will start the next turn in possession of the ball. Players who have moved in that turn may still intercept or receive the ball. If the ball is not intercepted, the goalie will have a guaranteed chance to intercept the ball, rolling dex as usual. If the goalie fails to intercept, a goal is made. If the goalie intercepts, then the goalie begins the next turn in possession of the ball, and must pass to a teammate - they may not attempt a goal.))

Each goal is worth one point, and after each goal the current round ends and players may return to the side of the pool for a short rest before the next begins. The first team to three points wins the game.

((Diving Rules))

As an individual event, this event will be scored by averaging the individual scores of all team members to calculate an overall team score.

This event uses a 1 meter-high springboard-style diving board. Each diver will step on to the board, and may bounce as many times as necessary before performing their dive. Dives will be scored on technical execution and complexity, on a scale from 1 to 10. Dives will alternate between teams until every team member has gone.

((How to dive: First, describe in the DM channel the dive your character is attempting. Then, roll str and dex. The DM will tell you how well your character does, assigning DCs based on how ambitious your dive was, and then you may emote the dive.))

Recurve Bows

((Discus Rules))

As an individual event, this event will be scored by averaging the individual scores of all team members to calculate an overall team score.

Each competitor will have three throws of the discus. They must throw from behind the line marked on the ground. Their score for each throw is the number of meters the discus travels, multiplied by ten, and their final score is all three of the scores added together.

((How to throw: Roll str. The DM will tell you how far it went.))

((Archery Rules))

As an individual event, this event will be scored by averaging the individual scores of all team members to calculate an overall team score.

Each competitor will have three shots at the target. The target consists of ten concentric rings, with point values ranging from ten for a bull's eye to one at the outer ring. A miss earns no points. Each competitor's final score is calculated by adding together all three shot scores.

((How to shoot: Roll dex. The DM will tell you which ring you hit.))
