"Hey, watch where you're going. What's wrong with you?" Some fifth year student shouted, frustrated, as Mary brusquely passed him by, almost knocking him over. Mary didn't notice him at all, focusing on her target; the dungeon stairs. Climbing them down with determination, barely noticing the thick darkness occasionally penetrated by the faintest of fires, she continued down the corridor. Soon she found herself outside the office of Headmaster Snape. She knocked, with confidence, twice. There was no answer. Not feeling like quitting, she knocked again, this time five times. Apparently, she had annoyed him enough to grant her an audience - she heard is voice from within, and she opened the door, climbing inside his musty sanctum. Next to a set of shelves, apparently looking through some book, the Headmaster stood. Vile, acidic, like a perched hawk looking for pray. Mary smelled him before she saw him. The musky scent she'd grown to detest so vividly over the years filled her nostrils. Severus Snape looked at her with his usual displeasure, and he was the first to speak. "What do you think you're doing here, Maywell?" She looked at him for what felt like ages. Then she replied, coldly, "What's best for Hogwarts". And that's when she pounced. The ill-reputed Headmaster gulped. He didn't realize fully what hit her, but the pain was real enough. Her monstrous claws were embedded deeply within his organs. He had pushed her too far. And at that point, when she stared mercilessly into his vacant, helpless eyes, breathing her warm fog into his face... Mary woke up. Covered in sweat, she tried to get to her senses, wondering what time of day it was. Looking out, she realized it was still deep night. Why she had awoken, she had no idea. Had she dreamt? She tried to grasp for it. All she got was a satisfied feeling, a feeling of closure. "Must've been a good dream," she thought, as she slowly drifted back to sleep. |
