From what I understand GOG issues the same (or maybe recycled) CD key(s). I'm guess they're either working on the assumption that people are purchasing the game for single player or they haven't had enough complaints for them to fix the system. As far as I'm aware all you have to do is contact GOG and they'll give you a new CD key with no fuss.

Right. When you buy NWN through GoG, they give you one CD key, the same one that they give to every other purchaser. The problem is that you can't play multiplayer with that CD key...or you couldn't, until the main servers went down. Now you can play online with pretty much any CD key, which led to people lending out the GoG key to friends who had lost their disks. However, you can't log into the same server at the same time as somebody who is using the same key as you, so...yeah. :\ Issues.

But if you did buy it through GoG, they'll e-mail you a unique key if you submit a request for it, usually within 1-2 business days.

GOG openly states this when the game is downloaded, but many seem to forget once they find they are able to use the default key. Problem is that the default key only works when no one else on the server is already using it.

I sent a message to the support team of GOG asking for new CD keys and someone on the board replied saying that there is no copy of Neverwinter Nights on my account and that they can only send me one if they have an e-mail linked to an account that has the game, the only thing I could think of that meant is they're referring to the game being purchased on the site, but I didn't buy it online.

He said they're from the original copy of Diamond Edition that he bought my brother and I several years ago, but we got it when it was in stores.

Do you have access to documentation with the original CD code on it? If so, there's a way to verify that it's the correct one associated with the installation on your computer, which I can walk you through. We really need to resolve this, since it's affecting players other than just yourself, so please get that from your dad if possible.

Alternatively, pay GOG $10 and get a new key. It's a solution, anyway.

Well he said it's an original CD code, none of it came from the copy that he bought. So how can I have it verified?

Something screwed up with your CD code. I don't know what he meant to do, but the code that was installed to your game was the GoG CD code, at least for the base game.

Go find the original code. It's probably on a piece of the game package, or maybe written down and stored with the install disks. Then, follow these instructions to verify that your CD code is entered correctly:

1. Go to the directory Neverwinter Nights is installed in(probably in program files somewhere)
2. Find your nwncdkey.ini file and open it in notepad.
3. Verify that the CD codes listed are the same as the ones from your physical disks.
4. If not, re-install neverwinter nights, making sure to carefully enter the correct CD codes when prompted. (Yes, there is a way to manually change the codes without a re-install, but I don't feel confident in instructing you as to how to do it - you run a serious risk of breaking your game if a step gets messed up. So.)

If you no longer have access to the original code, then you will need to purchase a new one from GoG for $10.

Well if you want to know how to change there is a file called nwncdkey go there and change them, make sure you use all caps and the - are in right spot (after every set of 5) do this at own risk

PS yeah its that simple worse your do is make you reenter one that works
