Well I am not afraid to say that is a stupid rule.
Even when there is a class event, Dm's write that students are required to wear their house robes. Assuming they wear other clothes.
And rules can be changed.

There used to be an OOC reason for that rule. The GMs wanted to be able to tell quickly with which House a character belonged. We used to do more with House Points back then.
(Now, you could almost consider it a school tradition ICly.)

I just thought of this but wouldn't the new CEP 2.4 also include not just new clothes and ridable creatures but also new modern day hairstyles, or at least any new hairstyle in particular?

Don't know if CEP 2.4 has any new heads. But it won't have modern looking heads; it's D20 modern that might have that.
