Post subject: | Problems with NWN performance |
So, I just reinstalled NWN, wanting to get back into the flow. I have serious issues, and I'm hoping someone* can help me out here. First off, my issue. When I start NWN (in administrator mode, thing refuses to start without), there are no problems whatsoever. As soon as I click on "Multiplayer", the issues start. Suddenly, the game slows down to an unbearable crawl where I get 1-2 seconds lag on everything. I log in, and the lag stays. I'm unable to move my character as a result, and obviously my RP (even if I could move) would suffer awfully from the latency. Now, I've noticed that the problems also pile on if I try to start a new single player game, so this isn't a connection issue. Basically, whenever I try to leave the main menu, where everything's fine, the latency kicks in, making my game a crippled piece of flaming, %¤%"#¤, ... Ahem. Sorry, kids. Don't try that at home. Either way, my game is all but unplayable, and I'm not sure what's causing the problem. Now, specs. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate. I've run NWN successfully on Windows 7 before. I don't think I even needed to activate administrator mode, so I'm tempted to say that -might- be causing it. But either way, I can't get the bloody thing to start without it now. Also, I've tried playing the game both with the UAC turned on and off; same results. The computer is a decent specimen, and has run NWN before, maximum graphic settings, with no issues whatsoever. Plenty of RAM, decent processor. No problems in the hardware that I'm aware of. I've tried wonking around with the graphics, and the problems are identical in scale whether I'm at the maximum or minimum settings. The game is, as far as I know, properly installed and updated CEP 2.2 installed with no problems I'm aware of. I have no other issues with my system currently. Any ideas? I'm kind of desperate to get playin'. For the sake of argument, it might be a possibility (although I really don't want to do this) to create a second partition on my hard drive to dual boot Windows 7 and Windows XP. In theory. I'd welcome any solution that doesn't come to that. *Someone, say hi to Ree from me. Hope the kids are doing fine. |

Seems odd, but I might try it if I have an hour to kill later. |

I had an issue like this once that was solved by updating graphics card drivers, that's definitely a solution to try too. |

Yeah, you may need to run in XP compatibility as well, and like has been suggested, may need to install in both Admin and XP compatibility. Have I mentioned lately how much I hate Windows? |

Calan wrote: Yeah, you may need to run in XP compatibility as well Already done, no effect. Calan wrote: and like has been suggested may need to install in both Admin and XP compatibility. Have I mentioned lately how much I hate Windows? Bah. Alright, sounds like I'll have to try to do a reinstall. I honestly can't see how an installation in admin/compatibility mode would be one iota different, but it's worth a shot. |

Uninstalled the game, reinstalled in admin/comp mode. No change. However, bigfoot&illuminati wrote: I had an issue like this once that was solved by updating graphics card drivers, that's definitely a solution to try too. I could kiss you, bigfoot. The video card driver updated fixed the problem. Thanks. |

Here's a link that might help, Tsu. http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic ... 4&forum=42 It could be a side effect of the dual core processor issue, too, but...it seems that Win7 FPS is a well known thing. |
