Universal Studios and J.K. Rowling are currently negotiating a deal to incorporate a Harry Potter-themed world into the Islands of Adventure park. The Daily Record has an article about it HERE.

The estimated completion time is 18 months to 2 years, based on what I've read in that article and a few others. Sounds pretty sweet! :D

To me it sounds like yet another way to rip off $$$ from the customers (mostly parents of the fan kiddos). Sif they arent making enough money from the books/movies/accesories (typo? Too lazy to check.) anyway.

AND... We are the parents who will drag our poor kids along, spending money on ourselves. :D Seriously though, Calan and I are going to begin setting aside money so that we can take a trip, most likely summer of 2010 -if- the theme park is open then. Which is the hopeful date.

We'd love to meet up with any of you able to join us! So start saving those knuts and galleons!

Last I heard, it would be open before Spring Break next year. If it is, I'm definately down there, since I'll be a 30 minute ride away.

I have met people off the internet before, and I still haven't been stabbed, shot, drugged, kidnapped, or had monkeys fling poop at me. (That last one is a clear and present danger if you go to a safari outing.) Did I have to be so blatant about it? Yes, I did. I've got traveling across the country to meet people in person once or twice. And when you don't drive, that's kind of a huge freakin' risk. Sure, I'm significantly larger than the average person, but it doesn't mean I can just go blindly anywhere.

Getting to know people online is one thing. Meeting them offline is something else entirely. I am not saying that anyone here is fraudulent in how they represent themselves. However, I have friends (most of whom I did meet online first) who did have bad experiences with others. My suggestion is to spend quality time getting to know the people first. Use MSN, yahoo!chat and just about everything else you've been already doing. And in the end, a nice wide-open public place is best to encounter someone for the first time. Remember, all those conferences like Anime North, Ad Astra, and other such things are based solely on having hordes of people who don't know each other come together with a common focus.

It can happen. It does happen. And it can work. Just be smart about it and be safe. Are there people online here or my other gaming servers I would like to meet in person? Sure, and they (mostly) know who they are. Some of them it'd be improbable or impossible due to distance (England, Denmark, Australia) or time. Others have responsibilities or parental issues which would have to be overcome (if even possible). So on those rare occasions I do get to meet others, it's been a joy.

The thing about meeting people from this server, (Ree/Calan and Seril for example) is that they have literally known each other for years, seeing each other online almost every day. Only the true sickos have the stamina to keep up a charade for that long, and the marvelous thing about our RP server is that you would be able to tell if someone was disturbed. Seriously, nobody RP's anything that isn't already a part of them. Besides, there is also Facebook, MySpace, etc. where everybody knows each other too! Besides, we all already know that Calan owns a gun! =P
